Family Voices is a force to be reckoned with in this small state! Frequent meetings with the Title V/CSHCN program, the state ICC, the Academy of Pediatrics’ Medical Home project, as well as CHIP, and insurance employee benefits managers ensure strong, respectful partnerships. Families in Delaware who have children with special health care needs find it hard to have the time and energy for appealing the increasing number of managed care decisions that are based on medical necessity, especially for home care and therapies. However, working with partners, serving on many committees, using the media, and focusing on the medical home idea as a strategy for consistent and quality care for our kids seem to be working.
