The zoo is a wonderful place for families to go due to the wide walkways and large exhibits that are centerpieces of most. For a family trip, there is plenty for all parties to take on and enjoy. While we have already put together an overview on ideas for planning a trip to the zoo, we wanted to take one step further to help our community. The result? This guide on special needs accessibility for zoos across the United States.

Utilizing a wide range of efforts, including visiting websites, calling zoo staff and reviewing zoo directories on the internet, we have put together an extensive overview of zoos across the country and what we have found out about their accessibility. While each piece of information is subject to change, we have also provided contact information where available so that you can check into your opportunities before visiting. As a result, we hope your child, no matter what special need they have, can be well equipped to have a fantastic time at the zoo (even if it’s in another state!)

We should also note that we have included destinations like aquariums and ‘safari centers’ in order to cover the spectrum of options out there. If you are a zoo employee and find information in this guide to be inaccurate or incomplete, please don’t hesitate to contact us today!

So, without further ado, our comprehensive guide to United States zoos, complete with accessibility notes. We hope this overview is a great asset for your family and that you make some incredible memories the next time you visit!
