A “LifeCare” Center
Submitted by Kristen Malfara
My son, Morgan, is 3 and has PMD leukodystrophy. He attends the Kids Medical Club in Melbourne, Florida. This center goes above and beyond being a “daycare” center. In fact, my husband prefers to call it a “lifecare” center! The Kids Medical Club is a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) facility, one of only a handful in Florida and around the country. The staff includes nurses, nursing assistants, techs, therapists, and a Brevard County school teacher. The director of the center has herself been a foster parent to over 25 special needs children. The director of nursing currently has one adopted special needs child and is fostering another. Caring for children with very special needs is not just a job to these wonderful, highly trained individuals, but a life choice, and I couldn’t ask for anyone or anyplace better to care for my son.
