Scholarships & Financial Support for Children with Disabilities

Help Your Child Meet Life’s Challenges with Confidence

As a parent, your ultimate goal is for your child to live as productive a life as possible. That includes ensuring she has as many opportunities to develop important skills—academic, social, or otherwise—as any other child.

Today’s world demands a range of skills and aptitudes. Make sure your child enters adulthood confident and prepared.

Scholarships

While college may be expensive for any family, it is not an impossible dream because your child has cerebral palsy. Like any young person, she can apply and qualify for academic scholarships. She may also qualify for scholarships dedicated to children with disabilities. In addition to academic pursuits, be sure to explore special funding options that will help your child attend special camps or schools designed for disabled children.

While there are no national organizations set up to offer scholarships to children with CP, there are many organizations that can provide support to families who need it.

Youth Camps and Community Programs

Do you want your child to go to summer camp? Don’t hesitate to ask the camp program director for financial help. While there are no guarantees, many camps do offer aid. They understand that your child needs to be stimulated and to interact with other children, and they usually place importance on making their program available to as many children as possible.

The following non-profit organizations serve their communities through fundraising efforts and volunteerism. Contact your local chapter and ask for help:

When you ask for financial support, you are acting on behalf of your child’s best interests. Do so proudly—there is money to give. Going to college or attending summer camp is just a dream for thousands of children in the U.S. Perhaps you can help make it a reality for your child.

Do You Need More Than a Scholarship for Your Child?

Planning for your child’s education or sending her to camp may seem frivolous when medical bills are piling up and your family is struggling day to day. Taking care of a disabled child can be overwhelming. However, there is one thing you can do for your child today:

Find out if her cerebral palsy could have been prevented. If your doctor failed you and your baby in any way, you may be entitled to lifetime financial support.

Be your child’s best advocate and talk to an expert. It could change how you look at the future.
