Camp Barnabas exists to offer childhood experiences to Nicky and many other children and young adults who have been robbed of them by disease or disability. For one week, these young people are able to shift their focus away from sterile medical environments and the language of their disability or illness to focus on activities that build their courage and expand their belief in themselves. Many people with special medical needs endure unthinkable pain and isolating treatments for diseases or disabilities such as cancer, hemophilia, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy and AIDS. Their need for acceptance is overwhelming!

South Carolina School for Children with Cerebral Palsy
The Pattison’s Academy will be the first of its kind in the Charleston, South Carolina area to provide the support and choices that parents and special needs children want and deserve. Currently the organization runs very successful day camps during the summer months.
Pattison’s Academy will be a year-round school where students, 5 to 12 years of age will receive an individualized quality education and therapies from some of the area’s top professionals. Pattison’s Academy is projected to open in the fall of 2008. After researching funding sources in the area and across the state, Pattison’s Academy is going to pursue charter school status. It is the intent of Pattison’s Academy to provide services to children in Charleston County as well as Dorchester and Berkeley Counties.

Cerebral Palsy: Great Summer Camp near Boston- Subsidized Summer Camp
Pine Tree Camp is located in Rome, Maine (about 3 hours drive from Boston), and it is a wonderful camp for kids with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. They have 6 to 10 sessions over the summer.
They have well trained camp counselors that help the kids in every aspect, including dressing and eating. The camp is also integrated; accepting campers with AND without disabilities.

Established in 1945, Pine Tree Camp offers Maine children and adults with disabilities an extraordinary summer camp experience. The 280-acre camp is located on North Pond in Rome, Maine. The facility is fully adapted to meet the special needs of campers. The barrier-free setting and commitment of our staff allow campers to fully participate in activities that normally aren’t available to them including swimming, fishing, boating, outdoor games, kayaking, arts and crafts and even camping in a tent under the stars.

There is a sliding scale for camping fees. The camp holds several fundraisers throughout the year.
The camp does fill up fast. Applications are accepted in January. If you are unable to get in, put your name on the waiting list.

Special Needs Daycare and Respite Care in Austin, Texas- Sammy’s House
Sammy’s House is a unique daycare, fully equipped to accommodate special needs children. The day care is all inclusive, both special needs and typically developing children.
The day care, which offers child care services for special needs kids with conditions ranging from cerebral palsy to down syndrome , just re-opened in a new 12,000 square foot location.
Sammy’s House offers medical care, therapy and learning under one roof. While primarily a day care center for working families, respite care can be arranged on an occasional basis.
Sammy’s House is a non-profit organization that makes every attempt to offer care to all children. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy & Conductive Education Center Open House
The Jenny Rose Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy & Conductive Education Center in Pennsylvania is having an open house Saturday April 21st from 2:00-4:00. If you are considering Conductive Education or HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy ) this is a great opportunity to see how it works and sign up for summer therapy programs.
The Conductor (teacher) will demonstrate how the
program is set up, and will do some hands on with some of the children.
HBOT is also available alone or combined with CE. Come and learn about the differences, both
chambers are hard chambers with 100% medical grade oxygen. Every state has different laws, but if you are within driving distance it is worth while to come,
perhaps you could get some ideas. Some parents in Pennsylvania are
getting Conductive Education payed for by the school districts here, as
there ESY program. FSS and waiver funds can also be used.

Communication Therapy Camp in New Jersey
Children’s Specialized Hospital will again offer its Camp Chatterbox program from Aug. 13-19, 2007 to help nonspeaking children communicate.
The weeklong overnight camp for boys and girls ages 5 to 15 will be held in Knowlton Township, at Camp Warren. The camp is designed for children who are severely speech impaired or are completely unable to speak as a result of Cerebral Palsy or other developmental disabilities.
The mission of Camp Chatterbox is to help children become more interactive with their AAC (alternative augmentative communications) devices and to have fun in the process, to help parents be more comfortable using the device and to offer professionals gain hands-on experience working with children using AAC devices.

Bike Program for Kids with Disabilities: Programs to Educate All Cyclists (PEAC)
This is a wonderful FREE program. The rewards that come from watching a disabled child learn to ride a bike on their own just can’t be measured. Learning to ride a bike for any child gives self esteem and self confidence a huge boost
This program is available in Michigan. Another great program set to help people with disabilities achieve their cycling goals. To accomplish these goals, we have established training techniques that have been successful for years. We work with any ability level and any person three years old or older.

PEAC uses a variety of equipment, from adaptive trikes to standard mountain bikes. Students will have the opportunity to ride tandems, which develops balance and strength, and most students think the tandem is “really cool.” While most equipment is available for student use on-site, a student may want to bring his or her own bike if it is specifically adapted, or just personal preference.
